Event Description
Join us for the inaugural Peace of the Pie 5K as we race to
raise money to purchase fresh, local produce to be
donated to St. Mary's Food Bank
for families looking for healthier, more nutritious choices
in their everyday diets.
All food will be purchased and supplied from Crooked Sky Farms and
Farmer Frank Martin. On average, CSF has an excess of 3,000lbs of
surplus veggies from their farms, which will be delivered to St. Mary's
Food Bank on behalf of The Peace of the Pie donations. Also included
in the donations will be healthier choices, such as
quinoa, brown rice, legumes, etc so our less fortunate neighbors can
make healthier meals for their families.
Along with the food, we will be providing YouTube videos showing how
to prepare these veggies, etc. from Chef Lou Swartz, as well as other
local celebrity chefs. And, recipes including nutritional values, courtesy
of Chrissy Barth, who has her Masters in Nutrition and is a professor at
ASU.
After the race, grab your medal and head over to the pie booth and
take a pie in the face for charity! Completely optional of course, but
where is the fun in that?
We will also have 2 food trucks there for our first 'Battle of the Trucks'.
Each racer will be given a food voucher for 1 breakfast item from one
truck of their choosing. The truck with the most vouchers at the end will
win the battle and bragging rights till the next race!
