Event Description
The inaugural running of The Grit and Gravel Off-Road Cycle Stampede held at the Santa Ysabel East Preserve in Santa Ysabel will be held on May 25, 2025. (Why stampede? There are cattle grazing on the course. They tend to stay to the grassy areas but may cross the road in spots!)
The race is a challenging course with a (16.6) expert route. The race is conducted over gravely fire roads with some steep sections to challenge the most advanced riders. Mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and e-bikes (Class 1 and 2) can participate, and each will have their own timed class. The start and finish line is located at the Santa Ysabel East Preserves nature center parking lot. There is a BBQ lunch afterwards (free to race participants) provided by the Farmhouse 78 Restaurant in Santa Ysabel. (Non participants may purchase meals for $30).
In addition, there will be a kids’ bike safety rodeo to help kids develop bike handling and safety skills. All youth participants will receive a free helmet (Free event). There will also be a fun obstacle and riding course for youth participants.
