Austin's Backyard Marathon
"So, the last shall be first, and the first last"
Join us for the inaugural Austin's Backyard Marathon, a unique endurance event that allows you to push your limits in the beautiful Hill Country.
Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, our event takes place in Lago Vista, just 30 miles northwest of Austin. The race venue offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and challenging terrain, showcasing the best of Central Texas landscapes.
A Last Person Standing Challenge
This event combines personal goal setting with the excitement of a last-person-standing format. Every finisher (completing at least a loop) receives a medal! Complete 4 loops for our Half Marathon medal, 7 loops for the Marathon medal, and 8+ loops for the coveted Ultra medal (Ash Juniper cookies). How far will you go?
Race Distance Equivalents:
- Half Marathon (13.1): Complete 4 loops
- Marathon (26.2): Complete 7 loops
- 50K (31 miles): Complete 8 loops
- 50 Miles: Complete 12 loops
- 100K (62 miles): Complete 15 loops
- 100 Miles: Complete 24 loops
Format:
- The course is a 4.167-mile (6.706 km) loop
- A new loop starts at the top of each hour
- Participants must complete each loop within the hour to continue
- Set your own goal: aim for a specific number of loops or see how long you can last
- Runners are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop in time or choose not to start the next loop
- The last person to complete a loop is declared the overall winner
- Every participant who completes at least one loop receives a finisher's medal

This race uses a tiered medal system based on the number of loops completed.
Breakdown:
- Finisher Medals (for completing at least one loop): Base medal for all participants who complete 1-5 loops
- Half Marathon Medal: Special distance marker medal for those completing 4 loops
- Marathon Medal: Special distance marker medal for those completing 7 loops
- Ultra Medal: Special award for those completing 8 or more loops (33.336+ miles)
- Last Person Standing: Unique polished large sized Ash Juniper cookie for the overall winner
