Event Description

Onion Man is a grass roots, affordable, early season, low key Olympic distance triathlon in beautiful Walla Walla at the base of the Blue Mountains. This race is for beginners looking to gain experience to elite athletes looking for a competitive, challenging race. Onion Man is also open to individual age group athletes, 2- and 3-person relay teams and Athena and Clydesdale competitors. We wish all of you a safe race and encourage you to get out there and swim hard, ride strong, run fast and most of all, enjoy yourselves!

The race begins with a 2-loop 1.5 km swim in Bennington Lake.  Water temperature is expected to be 65-68 degrees and wetsuits are allowed and recommended.  The 40 km out and back scenic bike course heads out E. Isaacs Ave and Mill Creek Rd, up Five Mile hill, down Russell Creek Rd to a turn around and back with a short 1 mile up and back on Scenic Loop Rd then returning to lake. The 10 km run is a moderate out and back course with no major hills on a dirt trail, gravel road and bike path through Rooks Park and down to the turn around near Tausick Way.
