EVENT INFORMATION: 

Mark your calendars and register today for the COOLEST AND MOST UNIQUE 5K IN THE FLORIDA KEYS!

Please join us on the evening of Sat, Nov 9, 2024 for the inaugural RUNWAY 5K AND 1M KIDS FUN RUN. Both events will take place at a private airfield located in Summerland Key, FL during the annual Fly-In Event. Participants will be treated to displays of a variety of unique and fascinating aircraft along the course...private planes, helicopters, ultralights, homebuilts, experimental aircraft, and more! The airfield will only be closed for a portion of the race, so participants may even get to experience take offs and landings during their run! Come be a part of a great race for a great cause! All proceeds from this event will go directly to pay the expenses of the Island Groove Dance Junior Level Competition Dance Team. Our extremely dedicated young dancers have the dream to learn from choreographers and professional dancers and to perform and compete with their peers throughout Florida. Our mission is to foster and encourage their creative expression and provide the platform for them to thrive and succeed. By participating, sponsoring, donating, or even volunteering, you will join us in this exciting endeavor and support these amazing young artists.

This is a family friendly race open to all ages and abilities. Whether you run, jog, walk, dance or groove, everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. The race will begin and end at the Summerland Key Airport and Park located one block off US1 at MM25 at the corner of W Shore Dr and Airport Dr N.

• The Summerland Key Airport Foundation. Created in 2023, the Summerland Key Airport Foundation protects, preserves, manages and improves the Summerland Key Park for the use and enjoyment of our local community.

REGISTRATION:

RACE REGISTRATION WILL BE ONLINE ONLY. Due to the logistical and planning requirements of this race, online registration will end on Thu, 7 Nov at 11:59 pm. NO RACE DAY REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

The 5K Run/Walk is limited to 100 participants and registration fees are $35 for adults and $25 for youth (17 & under). 

The 1M Kids Fun Run is limited to 35 participants and the registration fee is $20 (open to age 10 & under). 

BIB/PACKET PICK UP:

Packet pick-up will be available on Fri, 8 Nov from 4:30-6:00 pm at 185 Airport Dr N, Summerland Key, FL. Race day packet pick-up will be available beginning at 2:30 pm. Please follow all signs and instructions for parking, packet pick-up, and race start locations.

COURSE:

The 1M Kids Fun Run starts promptly at 4:00 pm. The course will be out and back on the Summerland Key Airport Runway. 

The 5K Run/Walk starts directly after the completion of the 1M Fun Run. The course will include one length of the Summerland Key Airport Runway and will then route onto Airport Dr S, Airport Dr N, and W Shore Dr, and may include grassy and rocky areas between Summerland Key Cove Canal and the runway. These areas are not paved and runners will need to pay special attention to the terrain.

There will be one (1) Aid Station with water and electrolytes for the 5K.

Cones, signs and volunteers will clearly guide the runners and walkers on the route.                   

GIVEAWAYS:

1M Kids Fun Run participants will receive a unique, aircraft themed finishers medals and cute airplane themed gifts.

5K Run/Walk participants will receive a awesome dual compartment tech/cord/electronics organizer for traveling. 

AWARDS: 

The 1M Kids Fun Run is not a timed event. Awards will be given to the Overall Boy and Girl Finishers.

The 5K Run/Walk is a timed event. Awards are as follows:

• 5K Walk Overall Awards to Top Male and Female in 2 Categories:  59 & Under /  60 & Over

• 5K Run Overall Awards in 2 Categories:  Top 3 Males and Females / Top Masters Male and Female

• 5K Run Age Group Awards 3 Deep in 7 Categories:  Child (0-10) / Youth (11-19) / Adult (20-29) and (30-39) / Masters (40-49) /  Grand Masters (50-59) / Senior Grand Masters (60+)

RULES & REGULATIONS:

1. Participants must obey all instructions, signs, and rules regarding use and access to the Summerland Key Airport. The runway will be closed from 4:00 - 4:45 pm. Once race participants are routed onto the road, the runway will become ACTIVE and aircraft will be allowed to takeoff and land during the remainder of the race. Please be aware that noise and wind may be a factor and impact runners and walkers during the race.

2. Knowing the course is the responsibility of the runner. The course will be clearly marked with cones, signs and volunteers.

3. No unregistered runners, walkers, or pacers. 

4. No bicycles, skates, scooters, or skateboards. 

5. Participants must wear their official race number on the FRONT. It must be visible at all times. 

6. No unregistered runners, walkers, or pacers.                                                                                                                        

7. Slower runners and walkers should stay right and allow faster racers to pass on the left. Faster runners and walkers should inform participants when they are approaching and passing on the left. Racers that have turned and are approaching the finish line have the right of way. Please always give way to the faster participants.

8. Absolutely NO LITTERING on the course.
