The Metuchen Milers: Steps of Hope Virtual 5K is a virtual run where you can run at any location in the world. You must run or walk (or both) a full 5K (3.1 miles) at one time. You can do this on the day of your choice starting at

12:00AM Friday, October 20 until 11:59 PM Sunday, October 22.

The Metuchen Milers: Steps of Hope Virtual 5K is a benefit event to support The Akhil Autism Foundation’s new Sensory Pathway Center; a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide a safe, engaging, empowering and educational space for individuals with autism and other neurodiverse individuals. 

All proceeds benefit The Sensory Pathway Center, a nonprofit organization supported by the Akhil Autism Foundation, holding a 501(c)(3) status. You can learn more about the center and the Ahkil Autism Center by watching this video on YouTube.

Metuchen Miles Running Club is partnering with the Ahkil Autism Foundation. Based in Metuchen, NJ Our mission is to support running and walking in all communities while also supporting important charities and causes. 


The mission of the Ahkil Autism Foundation is to provide parents who have autistic children with the correct education, support, research, and treatment to allow their child to live an independent life.

The Sensory Pathway Center uses cutting-edge digital solutions to revolutionize care for all autism, and other neurodevelopmental disabilities and other abilites. 


Our state-of-the-art Sensory Gym is designed to provide a safe, engaging space where individuals with autism and other neurodiverse individuals which includes other developmental disabilities and all abilities can explore, develop, and strengthen their sensory skills.


We offer the following: 
*Open Gym Hours for Kids & Families: A sensory gym for children to play and explore in a safe and supportive environment.
*Rapid Prompting Method (RPM), an educational technique used to help individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
*Smart Ball Therapy uses an electronic ball component with sensors, creating a unique Iot platform that makes the ball digital and smart.
*Non-verbal communication is the use of body language, facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, tone of voice, and other cues to convey information or emotions without words.
*Sensory integration involves combining sensory inputs from various sources, such as touch, sight, sound, taste, and smell, to create a coherent understanding of the environment.
*Reflex integration refers to the process of integrating and maturing primitive reflexes that are typically present in early infancy. Children with autism may exhibit retained or unintegrated primitive reflexes, which can affect their sensory processing, motor skills, and overall development.
